FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

MICROBLADING

Long-lasting polished brows, without daily makeup or maintaining tints.

Here are the answers to some of the common questions. Remember, you can book a free consultation with us. We’ll talk through everything you need to know.

What is microblading?

Microblading uses a handheld tool to create semi-permanent hair-like strokes in the browline. It’s similar to tattooing. The very fine blades, about the width of a hair strand, scratch the skin. Pigment is then placed in the skin to give the illusion of a fuller brow.

Consider microblading if:

  • You use makeup to fill in your brows
  • You’ve lost your natural shape due to over-plucking or thinning
  • You want to save time in the mornings and have the guess-work taken out of styling your brows
  • You’re not pregnant or breast feeding
  • You’re not dealing with a serious trauma or sickness
  • You’re willing to take a break from exercise for seven days
  • You haven’t had Botox in the last three weeks

What happens when I come in for the treatment?

We’ll welcome you to Haus of Brows and show you to a private room. There’s some paperwork to fill in, and we’ll apply a topical anaesthetic to your brows. They’ll be nice and numb by the time we begin.

First, we’ll talk in detail about custom designing YOUR perfect brow. We’ll take into consideration colour, shape and balance of your facial features.

We’ll draw an outline of your updated brow onto your browline, so you can visualise it and make tweaks.

We then choose a colour based on your preference, skin tone and hair colouring. We’ll swipe the colours on your forehead so you can see them in real life.

We make sure you’re 100% happy with the colour and shape before we start.

Microblading takes two sessions. An initial treatment and then a follow up for refining. Allow 2 hours for the initial design work and treatment. The refining appointment takes no more than 1 hour.

What’s the difference between powder brows, ombre, and microblading?

Microblading uses a handheld tool to create realistic looking hair strokes. It’s best suited for a drier skin type. The crisp strokes can become blurred on oily skin.

Powdered brows are machine-drawn to create a more filled-in look.

Ombre also uses a machine to fill in the brow. Ombre produces a faded look at the beginning of the brow.

Machine work push the pigment deeper into the skin and will not fade as subtly as hand-drawn brows.

How permanent is semi-permanent?

The results will last anywhere between 12-18 months, before you’ll need a retouch. The length of time will vary depending on factors such as your lifestyle, health and skin type.

Is one treatment enough?

Microblading is a layering process and requires two treatments for the best results.

The second session is what we call the perfecting session. We reinforce the strokes, fill in any gaps that have appeared while healing, and tweak the shape if needed.

You have the option to go darker in the second session. You can take a cautious approach for the first round, knowing you can always go darker/bigger/bolder in the second session.

Can I pick and choose what style of tattoo I get?

Yes and no.

We pride ourselves on being brow experts and artists. While we’ll listen to your preferences and style, we’re trained in knowing what will flatter your facial features.

We want you to be wearing your most flattering brow. Not ones that are in fashion now but will quickly date. For these reasons we solely specialise in a natural looking technique. The result is an understated, natural boost. Not an obvious tattoo.

What should I do before coming in for my appointment?

There’s nothing you need to do to prepare your brows.

We ask that you:

  • Don’t have Botox for the three weeks before your appointment.
  • Don’t take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief. This will thin the blood and can make you more prone to bleeding around the site.
  • Don’t shave your brows. It’s best to come in a day or so before your appointment and have your brows professionally shaped and tidied.

Is there anything I need to do after having the treatment?

We’ll provide you with an aftercare pack with all the information you need. This contains a specially formulated cream to apply on your brows morning and night for the first 7 days.

Keep your newly perfected brows clean and prevent them from drying out. You’ll need to stay away from hard exercise and avoid saturating them in water for 7-10 days after treatment.

Will I need to keep up with regular brow maintenance?

Microblading doesn’t change the eyebrow hair you have, so you’ll still need to shape and tidy your brows.

You’ll find it easier to achieve a polished arch, as you can follow the line we’ve created.
